The U.S. News and World Report list of America’s Best Hospitals is based on measurements of reputation, patient mortality and safety, and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services.

The hospital rankings are based on an Index of Hospital Quality that rates performance in three areas – structure (volume, technology and other features that characterize the hospital environment), process (the hospital’s reputation for developing and sustaining a system that delivers high-quality care) and outcomes (an adjusted mortality rate, based on MedPAR data).
